While I’m busy preparing for our wedding, our babysitter is busy with her Prom night preparations.  I know how important it is to her and all her friends graduating Grade 12 this year because most of them are moving away and pursuing their studies in different parts of Canada.  While my wedding is important, I know it is only right to help my babysitter who has been working for us for the last 4 yrs to not only get the perfect dress but be able to choose from a wide variety of prom dresses at affordable prices.

Yes, we do have a bridal store in town that does prom dresses as well, but I don’t blame the babysitter for having second thoughts because every dress she picked would cost her a hefty sum.  Sure it is an important night with all sorts of excuses to spend close to $600 on a dress, but if one had other choices and had seen those lovely creations of prom dresses Jovani, I bet she would drop the other prom dress without a second thought. Prices with this label are competitive with the local store here but the flare of the design on these prom dresses is extraordinary.  The colors of the fabrics used are glamorous and bold, it shouts to the world “LOOK AT ME HERE!”  and isn’t that the aim of any girls attending their graduation prom?

Having said that, one can get their prom dresses online and save at least 50% of what they would pay back home.  Ordering them online isn’t that difficult, nor needs Einstein to help.  Of course, I can understand you are worried about the right fitting but even if you buy them in a shop, you don’t get the right fitting all the time.  Any local tailor can help you fit it if there is any flaw and with the money saved you can easily afford that.

Marrying Again..??

In the chinese cultural .. woman who were married before.. and divorced or became a widow.. is slighted .. when they wanna get married again.  My sister.. who was married once.. but didn’t have a proper wedding .. decided to have one during her second marriage. For her, it wasn’t even the slightest worry because her then future mother in law didn’t know she was married before.  Had she known.. i’m sure.. she wouldn’t get a wedding dinner and all (that was the culture) back home.  But she didn’t wear a wedding dress.. now a red “kwa” .. but she was in a cheong sum during her wedding dinner.

So what are your thoughts about those who are marrying again .. for the second time..?? or for those like myself.. who already have a kid with the man.. and only getting married now..??  Strange as it might seems to some.. but getting into the whole process .. of a white wedding and all.. is it necessary..??  As a mother to a young daughter.. i am of course, like all other mums.. and want to see my daughter get properly married.  But for myself.. truth be told.. a lot of folks will agree .. that we can dispense of all the novelty.. and the commotion.  What are your thoughts.. ?? about marrying again situation .. or those who already have kids with the man..??  Practicality versus — ??

Wedding Shoes

As you all know I’m having a beach wedding but having said that.. I’m not one for flip - flops either.  So i’m also in search of a wedding shoes for the beach wedding.. and something nice.. and cutesie.  I guess depending on what kind of wedding dress one picks.. it should kinda coordinate with the wedding dress right..??  And i prefer not to hide it under my gown.. since I am a head shorter than the man… so it has to have some sort of heel.. but not too high a heel.

Having said about the heel stuff, I don’t advice any bride to wear the wedding shoes with too much heel, afterall, we know that that day will be a very busy day.. and you probably have to stand the whole day.  So beauty is one thing.. but practicality is another.  I choose to be practical.. and a little pretty as well.

I like these shoes.. because it has a full support on the heels.

This is very pretty too.. but i really donch want just white… so i’m still searching… if you know what i mean.  Yes.. some people asked why don’t i go bare-footed.. but i’m a shoe freak.. and i love shoes.. so it’s an excuse to get another pair.. which reminds me.. i should get something i can wear even after my wedding.

Paying For Bridesmaids Dresses

If one can find bridesmaids dresses starting at $49 .. i definitely wouldn’t mind paying for them.  And this is not an advertisement.. trust me.  I was looking about whether i should pay for the bridesmaids dresses.. and what is the rule of thumb about it.. when i found that one can get dresses starting at $49 .. and they are pretty awesome looking by the way.  So yes.. if they really starts at $49 .. i’ll pay for it.. !!!  in fact, one can even get the flower girl dresses here too.

Be Nice To Your Bridesmaids

So how many bridesmaids are you having for your wedding..??  i’m not having very much because i don’t have very much friends or relative here.  I had chosen three friends to be my bridesmaids but hang on a minute.. how would you expect your bridesmaids to dress up like..??  are you to tell them what you want them to wear.. or are you getting something for them..  without even consulting them..??

Since mine is a beach wedding .. almost anything that is not so formal goes.  Casual smart is also another good line to go with.  And you really want to be nice to your bridesmaid right..??  and I also wanted everyone to be happy, therefore i picked a color that i know will go with the theme of my wedding.. and that pastel colors.. which means pretty much .. any pastel color.  And my bridesmaids can pick their own style of dresses they want to wear.. whether it meant a halter, a strapless or with spaghetti straps.  So there you go.. i made everyone happy including myself.  Now do one pay for your bridesmaids dresses..??  I’ll let you know in another post later.

More Bridal Gowns

Look what i found..??  more gowns to choose from..! awesome..!! more choices.. before i finally decide what i want to wear.  Prices are really cool too.  At $500 .. i don’t think anywhere is cheaper than this.  Actually, i find it amazing.. that i have so many choices… back home.. the bridal shops get upset with you .. if you so much as decide to rent instead of buying.  I’m gonna check out Tan Yoong from back home, and compare prices for you to see .. in my next stop.  In the meantime, I also found these awesome wigs for my bachelorette party.

Can you imagine everyone wearing a wig like that for your bachelorette party.. ?? how fun is that..??

Fitting Into Your Wedding Dress

The clock is ticking.. and I know i don’t really have much time left before the final fitting for the wedding dress.  Are you in a panic mode like I am now..??   Stressed..?? well.. don’t be .. you already have a lot on your plate.. and your mind.. i know.  The man is a YES man currently.. and everything you ask him.. he just say “Yes, dear” and I know that can be really frustrating.

So yes.. you wanna make sure you can fit into your wedding dress.  Afterall, you want the dress and the wedding to be perfect right..? So now is the time.. where we have to watch what we eat right..?  Yes..!! right now..!! not tomorrow.. nor after this weekend.. but right now.  Well.. don’t starve yourself though… get into a routine.. on a food plan .. that works well with you .. afterall, eating health is always the way to go right.

If you are anything like me, you need a gym to do your workout at least twice a week.  Working those flabby arms.. or flabby thighs.. and keeping fit and working on those stamina is important.  For the wedding takes a few days.. and a whole day of activities.  Ok.. I better start working on getting into my wedding dress now.

Something New, Something Old, Something Borrowed & Something Blue

So they say.. you need something new.. something old .. something borrowed.. and something blue.. for your wedding..??  I’ve heard about this.. for a long, long time.. even before my sister got married. So here i’m wondering.. why did this good old tradition mean..??  When I asked the man.. about it.. he answered..  “how would I know..??  yer the woman..!! “   MEN..!!!

Anyway.. this tradition is actually meant.. to bring the bride some good luck.  With each of the required things.. they are meant to represent something different.. for the bride .. and for the years to come.  It should be easily incorporated into the wedding gown.  Even though this tradition is old.. they are something that brides of today… still do.. during their wedding.. as far as I know.

So how do one find all the above..?? And what i chose .. to use for my own wedding.

Something old : I choose to use a necklace that was given to me by my mom to be worn.. during my wedding ceremony.

Something new : I will have a new piece of pearl bracelet to go with my necklace.. during the wedding ceremony.. because it symbolizes a new start of our life together.

Something borrowed : A pearl earring borrowed from a girlfriend.. who had a very successful marriage for the last 40 yrs.

Something Blue :  A light blue garter was what i was told to get.. and that must be the easiest.

Good bridal stores are hard to come by.  Most that I had come across are those who are so ready to push you a sale but Kit & Kabudle Boutique, located in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia is not only your friendly bridal store.. but a store that does your daughter’s prom and son’s tuxedo for his prom nite.

Wedding dresses and accessories and other wedding knick-knacks that you might need for your perfect wedding.  And according to owner Tia - Maria Pitman, you do not need to spend a lot for your dream wedding, there are ways to go about and around it.. and it can be just as beautiful.

More wedding decor found at our local bridal store .. just opposite our business.  Kit and Kaboodle Bridal .. they do all sorts of bridal decor .. and wedding dresses.  You would do well .. talking to the owners.. for they are really friendly .. and insightful.
